OKLAHOMA CITY – House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement remembering the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
“I was nine years old on April 19, 1995, yet I will never forget what I saw before my eyes on my parents' bedroom television. Thirty years later, I continue to remember what happened on that day, and pray for the individuals and families impacted by unnecessary evil. I—along with all Oklahomans—will never forget those who were killed, those who survived, and those changed forever. I am grateful for every first responder who had no idea the heroic work they would be required to do—and ordinary Oklahomans and Americans who showed up to help in any way possible. It is those who showed up in a time of tragedy who set the Oklahoma Standard.
“We must never let extremism and division get in the way of humanizing each other, regardless of our differences. Oklahoma—and our Nation—is better when we accept and love each other. We will always remember. We will never forget. And we will continue to hold all those impacted tightly in our arms, thoughts, and prayers.”
The Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995, is considered the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in United States History. It resulted in the deaths of 168 people, 19 of which were children, and with hundreds of people injured.
