House District 99 is home to one of Oklahoma’s most dynamic and inspiring leaders: Representative Ajay Pittman. She was elected to her fourth term in 2024 to the Oklahoma House of Representatives as part of the 60th Legislature. Rep. Pittman has become a champion for health equity, economic development, and social justice, all while honoring her rich heritage and deep ties to her community.
A proud sixth-generation Oklahoman and seventh-generation Native American, Rep. Ajay Pittman holds dual citizenship in the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Her family’s history is woven into the fabric of this state. She is the great-great-granddaughter of a 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre survivor, Abner Burnette, and the great-granddaughter of Jazz Hall of Fame musician C.E. Pittman. These roots instilled in her a deep commitment to service and justice.
Rep. Ajay Pittman made history as the first millennial female elected to the Oklahoma House and the first second-generation female to represent House District 99, She followed in the footsteps of her mother, a former state senator, and carries forward this legacy of service with the same passion and dedication that has defined her family’s contributions to Oklahoma.
In the 60th Legislature, Rep. Pittman’s leadership continues to grow. The Speaker recently appointed her to the prestigious Joint State-Tribal Committee, where she plays a vital role in fostering collaboration between tribal governments and the State of Oklahoma. Her committee assignments further reflect her diverse expertise and dedication:
• Tourism Committee – Promoting Oklahoma’s vibrant tourism sector to drive economic growth and celebrate cultural heritage.
• Agriculture Committee – Strengthening the state’s agricultural industry, supporting farmers, and addressing challenges faced by rural and urban communities alike.
• Appropriations & Budget Subcommittee on Health – Ensuring healthcare funding prioritizes access and quality for all Oklahomans.
• Oversight Committee on Energy & Natural Resources – Advocating for sustainable management of Oklahoma’s vast energy resources.
Beyond her legislative work, Rep. Ajay Pittman has become a national voice for change. She is the Second National President of the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women) and serves as the Secretary of the National Caucus of Native American State Legislators, amplifying her leadership on trending issues at the national level. She also holds key appointments, including serving on the NCSL-CSG National Task Force on Workforce Mental Health Policy, the EOPA National Climate and Energy Security Taskforce, the NCSL Health Equity Committee, and was appointed Vice Chair of the Labor & Workforce Committee for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.
Rep. Pittman’s advocacy and leadership have earned her widespread recognition. Most recently, she was honored as the 2025 Mental Health America Legislative Champion, 2025 Women of Color Expo Public Servant of the Year award, and Committed to Care & Access Award at the 2024 National Black Caucus of State Legislators Conference, which recognized her relentless dedication to improving access to care and championing health equity. This award joins her growing list of accolades, which include the 2023 Democrat Child Advocate of the Year, the 2022 Oklahoma Turning Point Council Public Health Innovator Award, and the 2021 Council of State Governments “20 under 40 Award.”
Her influence extends beyond policy, as she has become a sought-after speaker and media contributor. Rep. Ajay Pittman has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, and NPR and has shared her expertise at high-profile events like the Rutgers Center for American Women and Politics.
At the heart of her work is a passion for serving her community. From addressing hunger and supporting minority teacher recruitment to advocating for maternal health and criminal justice reform, Rep. Pittman’s efforts are as impactful as they are inspiring. She is deeply engaged in local initiatives and serves on the boards of organizations such as the National Women in Agriculture Association, Cope, Inc., and KIPP Reach College Preparatory School.
