The Oklahoma House of Representatives Internship Program offers students an unparalleled opportunity to be directly involved in shaping the laws and public policies that impact our state.

Why Intern with Us
As an intern, you'll collaborate with professional, non-partisan staff and State Representatives, gaining invaluable experience in a dynamic environment. This internship provides a platform for you to apply your knowledge and develop new skills, all while contributing to meaningful legislative work.

When to Apply

• > Best Time to Apply: Spring Semester Only (February - May), no summer or fall semesters.
• > Application Deadline: Open September 15th, 2026 & Close January 15th, 2027.

Who Can Apply
This program is open to students currently enrolled in a collegiate institution. To participate, you must receive academic credit for the internship, either through an internship course or an independent study approved by a professor or administrator.

What You'll Do
Interns take on a variety of essential tasks that provide a comprehensive understanding of the legislative process, including:

• > Conducting research on specific issues
• > Monitoring and reporting on committee meetings for legislators
• > Researching and drafting responses to constituent inquiries
• > Summarizing reports or bills
• > Assisting with mail and telephone contacts

Before applying, schedule a meeting with your college advisor or professor to confirm that enrolling in an internship course will fit within your academic schedule and meet your program requirements.
Next, contact the Internship Coordinator to schedule your interviews. Before your first interview, research at least three Representatives and identify legislative topics that align with your interests and career goals.

Interview Process:

• > First Interview: The first interview will be conducted via Zoom with the Internship Coordinator. Please be prepared to discuss at least three Representatives you would be interested in working with and explain why each aligns with your interests and career goals.


• > Second Interview: The second interview will be conducted either in person or via Zoom with the Internship Coordinator and the Representative or staff member working in your area of interest.

Bring the following to your in-person interview:

• > Your class/work schedule
• > Internship Course requirements/syllabus
• > An updated resume

Required Documents After Acceptance
Once you receive an internship offer, you will be required to complete and sign the internship packet and complete a background check.
